The real costs of our current healthcare system in the US includes many hidden costs. For instance:
MONEY –
insurance costs (COBRA for our family, over $1,700 a month!)
copays
deductibles
prescriptions
TIME
office visits
filling out forms
HEALTH
side effects of meds
chemicals
synthetic ingredients
toxins
I am not anti-doctor or anti-medicine. I certainly am not anti-surgery. I am very thankful that my son was able to have an appendectomy, and that my daughter’s life was possibly saved by an emergency C-section. I am also grateful that my uterus is gone!
Sometimes you need medicine. Sometimes you need surgery. But I think our society is too quick to medicate. We often medicate the symptoms and ignore the underlying problem.
How much does our current system of health care cost us?
In terms of money, we pay for health insurance (my husband recently lost his job, and the cost of continuing our health insurance via COBRA is over $1,700 a month!) We have copays, deductibles, and prescription costs.
Up until recently, my son was on four different prescriptions for GI issues (GERD and IBS). He was on these meds because between severe acid reflux and constant diarrhea, he had gotten down to 147 lbs. (He is 6’3”). In spite of not being able to continue with school, or get a job, he was being as productive as his poor health would let him, studying online and trying to do his share around the house.
With insurance, we were paying around $90 a month for his four meds. Now we don’t have insurance. Using www.goodrx.com, I checked local prices on these four meds.
If I got each med from the pharmacy that had it for the cheapest price (which would mean going to 3 different pharmacies), the total per month of these meds, without insurance, would cost $617 per month.
On May 28, my son stopped taking the meds, and instead decided to use Digestzen from doTerra. A 15ml bottle of liquid Digestzen costs $41.33 retail. Wholesale (ask me for details!) would be 25% less. He is taking ONE drop per day, in a glass of water.
He has felt better this last month than he has in more than a year. He is GETTING HIS LIFE BACK!
For a cost of . . . are you ready for this? 13 cents per day!!!!!
Here’s a recap:
4 meds with insurance -- $3 per day
4 meds w/o insurance -- $20.57 per day
Digestzen retail price – 17 cents per day
Digestzen wholesale price – 13 cents per day
He is also taking a probiotic and activated charcoal, but he was taking those while he was on the meds too. The probiotic runs about 36 cents a day and the activated charcoal is about 14 cents a day.
So, now do you understand why I am excited about doTerra?
